Biostasis Newsletter March 2024
Transparency in cryonics, Tomorrow Biostasis Case Review, and John Hunter revisited.
Transparency in Cryonics
If you are scheduled for a major medical intervention, we would at least expect a patient to be discharged in stable condition after the procedure. Given its dependence on future medical advances, there is no such direct feedback mechanism in cryonics. Patients who receive the best care, and patients who are straight frozen after many hours of ischemia, all end up stored in liquid nitrogen.
Since there is no legislation that covers the quality of cryonics care, or even a formal oversight organization yet, transparency of cryonics organizations is of crucial importance. Transparency does not only pertain to patient care but also to an organization’s operations, protocols, and communication with its members. Max More introduces the concept of transparency in cryonics and applies this concept to the major three cryonics organizations.
Tomorrow Biostasis: Unveiling 4 Patient Cases
On March 18, at least 170 people tuned in for the Tomorrow Biostasis live presentation and open discussion of their first four cases. You can watch the video here:
Born Too Early?
Over at Neurobiology Notes, Neuroscientist Andy McKenzie has published an excellent piece reflecting on the topic why long-term preservation for future revival did not start earlier. This is a topic that was also briefly covered by Aschwin de Wolf in a 2013 Cryonics magazine column titled “Born Too Early?” One could argue that maybe such attempts were made, but not in a form that conferred the kind of long-term stability that results from ultra-low temperatures or molecular crosslinking. Without understanding the molecular basis of “death”, and the future ability to alter those molecules, it is hard to conceive of a historical meaningful long-term preservation strategy.
Global Cryonics Summit
On July 20-21, thought leaders in cryonics will gather for the Global Cryonics Summit in Miami Florida. Speakers include Biostasis Technologies President Aschwin de Wolf, Biostasis Technologies Director of Communications Max More, and Director of Clinical Education at Resurgence Biomedical Sciences, Aaron Drake.
Save the Date!
On October 11-13 several Biostasis Technologies staff members will be presenting at the 2024 Tomorrow Biostasis event in Zurich, Switzerland. If you want to attend a cryonics conference at the premises of a new European cryonics storage facility, this is the event for you. We expect major announcements to be made at this meeting.
