Biostasis Newsletter September 2023
Local training, Upcoming Events, and Choosing the Best Life Insurance for Cryonics
Cryonics Institute Annual Meeting
On Sunday September 10, Biostasis Technologies President Aschwin de Wolf gave a well-received presentation about the current status of the science and practice of cryonics. He outlined upcoming developments in the field such as liquid ventilation and whole-body field cryoprotection, of which CI members will be able to avail themselves by making arrangements with SST providers such as Suspended Animation and Resurgence Biomedical Sciences.
Minneapolis Cryonics Local Response Training
On Sunday September, 24 more than 25 people gathered for a local cryonics first response training event. The morning session consisted of a comprehensive introduction to cryonics and cryonics first response by Aschwin de Wolf. Aschwin's talk was followed by a brand-new presentation by Resurgence Biomedical Sciences new Director of Clinical Education Aaron Drake about the logistics of cryonics, a topic that receives little treatment but is fundamental for executing a successful cryonics case.
After the break, participants got some experience with patient lifting, mechanical chest compressions, intraosseous infusion, loading an ice bath with ice and re-circulation, and moving it into a suitable vehicle for cryonics case work.
Assisting local groups with training, and enhancing their capabilities, is one of the objectives of Biostasis Technologies and its sister organization Resurgence Biomedical Sciences. If you are interested in organizing a local training in your area, please contact us.
Liquid Ventilation Prototype Testing
Construction of a new liquid ventilation prototype by Charles Platt is approaching the stage where it can be tested in a cadaver model to determine its operations and efficacy for cryonics case work. We are currently coordinating the first test of the device for later this year.
Biostasis 2023 - Tomorrow Bio / EBF Workshop & Training
This year, Biostasis 2023 will include workshops, training, presentations from experts, and an open house of the new Swiss facility for biostasis research and the long-term storage of patients. Speakers include Aschwin de Wolf, who will be talking about advanced cryonics case metrics, and Tomorrow Bio's Emil Kendziorra will demonstrate new aggressive initial cooling protocols.
Please note that the event will focus on workshops and trainings and is primarily for people actively involved in the field. Nevertheless, everybody is welcome. Especially, on Sunday for a community get together and tour.

“We will kick off the meeting with an hour of getting to know each other better. Zoom will not be available for that. The second hour will be an update from Greg Galligan on his attendance at the Alcor annual meeting and a training session with Minnesota Cryonics Rapid Response. Zoom will be available for that.”
The Limits of Term Life Insurance for Cryonics Funding
Term Life Insurance can be a quick and cost-effective initial step to put cryonics funding in place. In his recent guest article for the Biostasis Standard, cryonics funding expert Rudi Hoffman discusses the drawbacks and risks of "get term life and invest the difference" strategies to fund your cryonics arrangements. The article also includes a tragic account of how someone's cryonics arrangements got derailed late in life. We strongly encourage you to think carefully about your cryonics funding now and to prevent late-life surprises.
Biostasis Planning and the Dangers of Optimism
Max More's presentation about "Cryonics as Plan A" for the 2023 Dublin Longevity Summit is now available to stream at YouTube.
If Time Does Not End
"Humans live, age, and eventually face their seemingly inevitable death. For all living beings, death is the immutable constant – a natural law – to which all life succumbs. But what happens when this law loses its validity?
Several hundred people worldwide are putting their faith in the promise of a future technology designed to make their death reversible. In the meantime, their bodies, or optionally just their brains, are stored in nitrogen-cooled tanks at minus 196 degrees Celsius.
For his graduate work, Janick Entremont delves into a subject as ancient as humanity itself: death and how we deal with it. In doing so, he not only documents the ambitious experiment called cryonics, but also searches for clues to the existential question raised by what it enables: what is the value of time if it does not end?
Today, the print sheets for the photobook are sent through the press, and till the opening of the exhibition, a publication in a small edition of this work is in the making. Here, you can reserve a copy."
