Ariel Zeleznikow-Johnston on biostasis, the brain, personal identity, and the fight against death

Max More interviews the author of The Future Loves You: How and Why We Should Abolish Death

If you enjoy the essays on this blog, you will enjoy reading Ariel’s book, The Future Loves You: How and Why We Should Abolish Death. In this podcast, Ariel and I discuss our many areas of agreement but I also challenge him on the comments critical of cryonics in the book’s introduction and Ariel explains why they are there. That led to a discussion of biostasis as partly a rebranding. Ariel talks about experts and claims of the “impossible” including the remarkable example of Lord Kelvin who, despite being an undeniably brilliant scientist, rejected the idea of powered flight.

Ariel also tells us about the Brain Preservation Prize and an encouraging survey of neuroscientists about brain preservation. Based on existing evidence, neuroscientists should be more open to the idea. We also delve into personal identity and definitions of death, especially the concept of information theoretic death.
